Since childhood, every single girl was told not to walk like a guy, sit like a girl, behave like one and deal with issues like an Indian woman. This theory of women’s emancipation has been checked out since so many years, rarely boys are taught to learn how to respect a girl, how to accept rejection, how to deal with emotions. It’s the Indian patriarchy which plays its role in molding both men and women in such a way that issues like rapes, acid attack and molestation are occurring so frequently in our country thus, making it a country with the 4th highest rate of rape cases.
We have been assigned reservations, separate coaches in the metro, different colleges to study, specific rows to sit. For what? To protect us or to make us feel safe? Well, in that case, it all goes to vain as still women’s are not safe they need scissors, pepper spray, and such items to keep themselves safe. Also every day there are so many cases flashing every day in newspapers and news channels about rapes, abuse, and molestation. Each girl needs to think twice before leaving her home with a thought about her own safety. When cases are registered against such issues again society plays its role very smartly pushing and blaming everything on the head of the women accusing her for her clothes. As it has been said by many that it distracts attention of the men. Well, men wearing a short and walking beside the roads don’t really attract the attention of any woman then why men?
16 December 2012, under the darkness of night, a 23 years old young woman was raped and tortured so brutally that her intestines got damaged and was thrown naked down in the middle of the road for people to see. Thousands of people saw her laying half dead and suffering from unbearable pain. But not even a single human came up to help her, to hide. Her name was kept hidden from the people but not her identity as she lies inside the soul of every woman. Cases were filed, police took the charges but it took five years to get justice. Because the law of India is somewhere still not that open towards such issues.
Even after tolerating so much, the satanic deeds still didn’t stop. As in July 4, 2017, 16-year-old young girl was inhumanly raped in the Kotkhai area of Shimla and her body was found near a forest two days later.
Recently on February 2, 2017, 35-year-old woman was gang-raped in Hauz Khas village, an elite area of Delhi where a group of men of the same locality tried to abduct a woman. The Delhi Police instead of taking strict action against such rowdy elements, they planned to ban all women’s nights in bars in the area.
As in as the investigation by National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) shows that such cases had been increased more than 47 percent between 2012 and 2014. The pending cases of the year 2012 were 13,695, which rose to 14,940 in 2013 and 16,032 in 2014 to bear with it. As it’s not about the tolerance rather acceptance towards intolerance of every higher authority of Indian law enforcement’s, who still aren’t able to do anything to change the situation.
People in India worship female goddess with all due respect, lean their heads in front of her, denying the true fact that every girl is a part of that Divine source. Both Adam and Eve were created by god equally to serve the mankind. For God never really created Eve to face all this and to see her inborn struggling for Equality and Justice. As Justice is still hanging behind the barriers of the patriarchy. Change has to come from within and it won’t come overnight just by thinking and feeling bad about what has happened until each every one of us is ready to confront the reality by uniting together and then fighting for the cause.
