We all love F.R.I.E.N.D.S don’t we? The lives of the 6 friends Ross, Rachel, Monica, Chandler, Phoebe, Joey has emotionally engaged our hearts into it. We have had our hearts broken and fell in love and felt all the happiness with them.
For all of us F.R.I.E.N.D.S fan here is another reason to love the show (we don’t have any less reason to) F.R.I.E.N.D.S, picked up the tender issue of motherhood and bestowed its leading ladies with all the shades of it:
Single mom, Rachel
Rachel Green was shown as a single mother to Emma. Emma Geller Green was Ross and Rachel’s child but after breaking up with Ross, Rachel brought her up as a single parent. Rachel as a single mother gave a message to all the single mommies out there who always were looked down upon and thought incapable, that a woman is always enough, she needs no support to love and protect her child. Kudos to you, Rachel.
Apart from Phoebe’s innocent humor and singing (sings “smelly cat” in the mind), we love her for embracing surrogacy. She was a surrogate to her brother and gave birth to his triplets. Just like her singing, Phoebe took up the unconventional surrogacy to portray motherhood, thereby telling thousands of women that if you are in any way not apt to bear a child you can always switch to surrogacy. There is nothing wrong or unacceptable in surrogacy, women around the world have opted for surrogacy, and are embracing the genes.
Monica adopted kids
The control freak but absolutely lovable Monica came to know she would never be able to conceive due to her “hostile uterus” and therefore adopts “Erica and Jack”. Adoption has been a dreaded concept, and Monica bringing it up threw more light on it. Adoption can give the joy of being a mother and also help the child. There is so much more to her than just cleanliness.
Every character experiences the wonderful joy of motherhood and is special to them. The writers of the show wanted to highlight this unconventional take on pregnancy to show us the joy of being a mother can never be overshadowed.
How adorable is that! Thank you, F.R.I.E.N.D.S
