Home delivery man, a common sight. Ever heard of home delivery woman? Maybe not, but it might not be too far a story of women taking over as delivery agents.
This same question made Yogesh Kumar, a Delhi-based engineer creates “Even Cargo”. It is the first of its kind women-only e-commerce delivery start up. Yogesh initially wanted to begin cab services like Ola or Uber with women-only services.
But then he thought of women on scooters. His brainchild “Even Cargo” thus started in May 2016 at a small office in Saket with just two scooters and tons of confidence and hope.
He needed more people to make it successful, so he contacted NGOs working for unemployed women in poverty. He faced rejections from friends and families, people discouraged him saying women in this sector will turn an absolute failure.
After months of requesting the families of these women finally agreed. Yogesh assured them that the sector is safe and they will deliver only women related products and would work in daytime only. He got clients dealing in women clothing like Vajor and FlyRobe on board.
These women were completely trained to ride, in client handling and for managing smartphones. The response has been good but he needs more women to work, he only has 6 women at present.
What made Yogesh take this step? The will to bring a change in this world. Yogesh remembers protesting at Jantar Mantar for the 2012 Nirbhaya Rape victim, he wondered if bringing out women in the fore front in all the spheres might bring a change. His efforts are aimed to free women from the social stigmas and trappings.
More power to you, Yogesh.
